Vicibox 5.0.3 Setup Issues

Postby thirdhatch » Mon Aug 26, 2013 9:18 am

Hi,

I was able to complete the Viciboc os-install part of the initial setup. At this point, after the reboot, the keyboard does not function and I cannot proceed with the installation. This is on an IBM Bladeserver HS21 Dual Quad-core Xeon 3GHz with 16GB of RAM. There is nothing different about this server, this phase worked fine with the 4.0.3 installation. Any ideas Kumba?

I did some additional troubleshooting and discovered that the keyboard interface works again after I mount the cd. This is very weird. If the CD is unmounted, the keyboard does not work. If the CD is mounted, the keyboard starts to work again.

No clue. Never worked or used that hardware. Try searching google or asking on the opensuse forums.

A quick google search turned up this: http://www-947.ibm.com/support/entry/po ... GR-5081139

Does the keyboard work from the grub menu? Like hitting F3 and such? Can always try booting with the failsafe options. The initial reboot I believe bypasses the grub boot screen. You can get it it by just power-cycling the server and booting off the hard drives for a second time. you should then see the grub screen.

Yeah, the kb does work at the grub menu. I'm sure it has something to do with the grub parameters. But, I found a temporary work around for now by just mounting the cd drive in the bladecenter it forces the kb back to working condition.

Thanks!

Weird. Sounds like more then just an OpenSuSE issue. Maybe try a bios update? Or the fail-safe boot option from grub?

I don't think so, it happens on all three of my bladecenters. They are on the most up to date firmware.

Not sure then. We've had good luck with the hardware we've tested it on. We've never attempted that blade center before.
