Vicibox vs scratch

Postby smead » Mon Oct 28, 2013 1:22 pm

Can someone tell me why a scratch install would be superior to installing the vicibox.iso? What advantages would it have?

There would be no advantage EXCEPT in the (very rare) case of a Vicidial Professional combined with a Linux Kernel Professional who could build a more "pointed" kernel designed to utilize only the necessary modules and leave out the rest. This could make a slimmer system capable of (slightly) more calls.

There would likely be several DISADVANTAGES insofar as this new system would be UNTESTED by the myriad Vicibox users out there. Bugs are inevitable. Finding them and squishing them requires a wide variety of users across the entire spectrum of humanity. Vicibox has this advantage and when a bug creeps in ... someone finds it pretty quickly. And then Kumba squishes it and generates a new .iso shortly thereafter.

That being said: If you MUST have Redhat or Gentoo or Debian ... Scratch is not exactly "superior", it's merely your only choice.
