Proper method for archiving voicemail

We send voicemail via email, so agents almost never check their voice mail box with the soft phone. We still would like to keep the voicemail in the folder and archive through another method, in case email is not being delivered. What is a proper way to "trim" the inbox in this case? Say we wanted to keep only last 7 days worth of voicemail and keep archiving the older recordings. How would we achieve this? What's the preferred method for dealing with voicemail?

You would have to write a script to do this, We only have some bulk-delete options, but nothing to keep them currently.
