Apple XServe server for VICIDIAL

Postby i_magic » Sun Apr 13, 2008 10:16 pm

I am looking at purchasing Apple XServe servers to be used for mysql/php (1) and asterisk/vicidial (2 for now and more later) server. I am planning to completely wipe out their drives and do scratch install on them.

If anyone has any objections, please speaketh now or forever holdeth your stenchy breath.

Seriously, I wanted to know if anyone has experience using these and if there would be any problems.

Thank you.

Their latest XServe model packs:

Up to 2 2.8GHz or 3.0GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon processors
1600MHz frontside bus and 12MB L2 cache
2GB memory (800MHz DDR2 fully buffered DIMM ECC) expandable to 32GB (for a hefty price tag)
Selection of SATA or SAS drives (which I am
planning to set up as RAID 1)
Redundant power supply

I am gonna be using them for predictive dialing throughout the day and
crysis at night. Hopefully they prove to be stable, so I don't get
woken up during the day ;)

Sounds like fun machines to play around with :)

Let us know how it goes, I have never used an Xserve before.

I purchased an Xserve to play around with a few months ago and haven't had much luck getting the zaptel drivers to work, I've seen that some people have made it work, so it may be possible. If you figure it out please let me know how you did it.
