Vicidial with GSM Gateway

Hello,

Right now I am exploring the possibilities of using Vicidial with GSM Gateways instead of SIP. Version - VERSION: 2.14.708a BUILD:190414-0924. The plan is this setup will be for more than 30 users and it will be integrated with other solutions.

One concern that I have with using GSM Gateway is that it has very limited channels compared to SIP trunk. Does it affects the performance of Vicidial when it is used with GSM Gateway?

Any kind of suggestion and advice are welcome.

Thanks!

Depends on the type of gateway you're using, if it's a GSM to SIP gateway, vicidial will not see that it's a GSM gateway and will perform like it was a SIP trunk (assuming you have sufficient channels for your requirements).

If the gateway is to be installed on the server via PCI or similar, performance will vary depending on the hardware used etc.

Thanks for the reply Jamie. Really helps since I have never really set up GSM gateway (GSM to SIP) before for Vicidial use.

Just to add onto this, say for example there 10 agent active at the same time, running a campaign with ratio 3 (10*3=30 concurrent calls), using a 16 ports GSM gateway, I assume that the other 14 calls will be dropped since it does not have open channels. Is this right or is there any other way Vicidial handles the calls that does not have open channel for it?

Thank you.

If you set the max trunks on the server to the number of channels available on your gateway, vicidial will then be aware that it can't send more than the number of channels available. These calls will then wait for a channel to become free before they are sent.
You will see this happening on realtime by the TRUNK SHORT/FILL field saying 14/0.
If you don't do that, you will probably see those 14 calls dispositioned as ADC/ADCT (Disconnected Number) depending on the SIP response returned by your gateway when all channels are in use.

Is there a paticular reason you're not going to use a SIP provider instead? Far easier to administer and more flexibility when it comes to channels (unless you're in a country where SIP termination is expensive compared to local cell service).

GSM gateways are available for more than 16 channels like 32 channel 64 channels form dinstar, synway...

if you are having only 1 16port gsm gateway then as said by jamiemurray you have to set the max trunk to avoid overflow .

also you can buy multiple gsm gateways ,trunk with vicidial/asterisk with proper dialplan to dial equally in each gsm gateways.
